Two complete sentences glued together with only a comma. It's tempting because the pause feels natural — right where you'd take a breath.
A semicolon legally joins two complete, closely related sentences. When two halves can each stand alone, a comma can't hold them.
Changing the verb tense makes it feel fixed — but the structure is still a comma splice. The ACT loves an option that looks different and changes nothing.
It removes the comma problem by mangling the meaning into something awkward. Tempting if you're only hunting for the comma.

Built by a student who got tired of the alternatives.
I built Aurene because every prep app I tried did the same two things I hated: it buried me in busywork, and it lied to me about my score to keep me opening the app.
Fixing the busywork was the original idea — a system that pinpoints exactly which questions are costing you points, so you only practice what actually moves your score. The traps came later. Tutoring middle schoolers, I kept seeing smart kids lose points not because they didn't know the material, but because they couldn't see the trap baked into the wrong answer. When I sat for the ACT myself, the same thing was everywhere — so I started writing out, for every question, exactly why each wrong choice was tempting. That became the other half of this app.
